The challenge

Maintaining the hull of a vessel

Crucial for optimising fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions, and ensuring smooth sailing.

Traditional hull cleaning methods often rely on divers, which can be slow, costly, and environmentally harmful. This method releases biofouling waste directly into the sea, contributing to marine pollution and harming aquatic ecosystems. These practices are in direct conflict with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals of SDG14, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources.

Our solution

The Hull Cleaning System

A revolutionary Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) designed for efficient and eco-friendly hull cleaning. The system uses adjustable high pressure seawater jets to remove hull fouling and collects the waste with no direct physical contact, helping to prolong the life of anti-fouling and reduce downtime maintenance costs.

Key advantages

Diver free

No hard scrubbing, harsh chemicals or abrasive materials used.

Around-the-clock

Cleans day or night, during bunker fuel or cargo operations, in most weather conditions.

Cleaning

Utilises salt water under pressure as the cleaning medium.

Quick

ROV equipped with variable pressure water jets and designed to clean up to 500 m2.

Eco-friendly

Collects pollutants from cleaning for safe disposal onshore.

Approved

Granted pre-approval/permission to clean vessel hulls in hub locations around the world.

Efficient

Improves vessel speed and lowers bunker fuel costs.

Experts

More than 2,000 hull cleans worldwide since 2013

Area of operation

Malta's exclusive economic zone

Why choose us?

Speed and efficiency

It can clean up to 500m2 per hour under various sea conditions. Setup and operation can begin within 20 minutes of arrival at the vessel, ensuring minimal disruption to your operations.

Environmental impact

Unlike traditional methods, it captures biofouling waste instead of releasing it into the ocean. This is crucial for operators aiming to comply with stringent environmental regulations and earn extra carbon credits.

Safety and automation

It operates remotely, reducing the need for divers and minimising safety risks.

Cost-effectiveness

By maintaining a cleaner hull, your vessels will benefit from improved fuel efficiency. It can also work at night, during cargo/bunker operations, hence there is no time lost waiting, so avoiding opportunity cost.
FAQs
Cleaning speed on any vessel is determined by the size and type of vessel, antifouling coating on the vessel, biofouling encountered, prevailing weather conditions, location of operations, other factors being carried out at the same time that can impact subsea Ops, bunkers, stores delivery, gash barge, crew change etc.
Approximate timings depend on local conditions, however it can take 20 minutes to set-up and start cleaning, assuming the vessel is ready, tagged out safe to launch ROV and all safety documentation has been done onboard on arrival.
Cleaning depends on the vessel’s schedule and activity i.e., if it has been laid up or had extended idle periods, operating in warm climates or cold. The amount of attached biofouling will determine cleaning intervals, and of course the condition of the subsea anti-fouling coating.
As there is no need for diver intervention, the cleaning job can be carried out whilst cargo work is underway or at anchor, and in most weather conditions, thus saving valuable time.
No direct physical contact is made with the hull, prolonging the life of anti-fouling coatings and reducing expensive down-time maintenance costs.
It is fitted with a light and camera, allowing the operator to control, monitor and record the cleaning process from the support vessel. A video of the operation is presented with the cleaning report documentation.
